About Me

My Why

Hi, I’m Sammi

I am a Birth and Postpartum Doula, based in Logan (QLD). In my past life I was a neonatal (newborn) nurse where I supported countless women and families in their early postpartum period, in the NICU and Special Care Units. I loved my role, however have chosen to step away from that line of work, to embrace newborn mothers (and families) in a way that allows me to truly ‘be with’ them; to be completely present and a constant support, even in the hustle and bustle of a busy maternity ward.

From hospital to home births, I am here to work with you in pregnancy to prepare you for your labour, birth and postpartum period.

As a proud mama of two, who understands the challenges and joys that come with motherhood, I know from firsthand experience that Postpartum can feel isolating and lonely, and that those feelings can linger for a long while if you aren’t proactive in changing your situation (i.e. getting out and about; living in community with others; asking for help; taking care of yourself etc.).

My mission

My mission in one sentence is to bring about change in the maternity care culture, one woman at a time.

Diving deeper….

  • I want you to have your birth and postpartum – your way!
  • I wish to leave a legacy for my children, so that they can see that I played a part in paving the way for change in regards to how women are treated in and around the birth space. As a birth and postpartum Doula, I am dedicated to providing evidence-based education, support, guidance and comfort to women and their families.
  • I have a strong respect for and belief in women and their ability to birth.
  • I believe every birthing woman deserves equal access to high quality maternity care, evidence-based information, and the ability to make informed decisions that are respected and honoured in the birth space.
  • As your birth doula, I will work with you, providing education during pregnancy, about the tools and techniques I offer during labour, that will help you to have a calming, and positive birth experience. These tools and techniques work to reduce pain and the need for pain medications, allowing you to have a natural birth, if you so desire; again no judgement from me!
  • If you are preparing for a premature birth, I can support you every step of the way; this could look like in-hospital or virtual support.
  • I will always hold space for you and all your big feelings, free of judgement.
  • As your postpartum doula, I hold space for you as you unpack your birth story; I will cocoon you and your family with love and support, leaving you feel held and heard; I will cook you food that reminds you of home (think lasagne, pasta bakes, stews etc.); and help you with all the challenges of having a newborn (breastfeeding, sleep etc.).
  • If you are preparing for a premature birth, I can support you every step of the way; this could look like in-hospital or virtual support.
  • I also bring with me an ever-growing list of resources and other professionals to refer you to if requested or necessary.
  • I also work as a First Aid Trainer and Assessor, and provide comprehensive, nationally recognised First Aid and CPR training, which will give you the confidence you need, going into parenthood.
  • When we journey together, you can be rest assured that I’m considering your whole motherhood journey from the beginning, into the many years ahead of you.
  • I look forward to working with you and your family soon!
